this wasnt what i expected
when i said i want to move back to jakarta asap, this wasnt what i expected.

the day was 16th march 2020 and i was attending my friend's graduation. i was actually planning to attend another graduation the day after since the campus has 2 days of graduation for different faculties. but, no. that day everyone who was supposed to have one of their memorable moments has to face a big disappointment. families had flown to surabaya from all over indonesia; jawa, sumatra, kalimantan, papua, you name it. they were expecting to see their beloved son, daughter, sister, brother, ---you name it--- to finally experience their one victory yet it has to be cancelled.
no one to blame, no one to accuse. if only it was some technical error or the country had to go some political issue that could risk people get together maybe at least we have things or people to blame --- the university or the government. but, no. the universe somehow has its own way to destroy things. it's not only about things don't always go the way we expect it to be. this one, it's beyond that. and trying to calm ourselves down by blaming anyone doesnt make sense at all just because it's simply no one's fault.
i had been complaining about my commute traffic how it took me 2.5 hours to get home after work. i had been complaining about how i didnt get to be home early. i had been complaining about everything that so-called 'normal life' gave me. guess we all had been taking normal life for granted, hadn't we? damn, when things aren't normal, we still complain.

the day was 16th march 2020 when neither me nor all of my good friends realized that specific saturday was the last day we could all meet, hangout, had a good day or anything that friends usually do. that day we did think the next graduation, it would be us. but really, who are we to predict the future?
dear batch 2020, we really thought we would have that moment right? that one last moment as an undergraduate student. yet the more rational thing now is that batch 2020 will probably be graduating without a graduation ceremony. without an after-thesis-defense-celebration. all we think about now is that we could actually loose it after 4 years battling with those quizzes, projects, mid-tests, finals, and many more for that one precious moment we've been looking forward to.

the day was 27th march 2020 when my parents finally decided to take me back to jakarta because situations were getting worse. lockdowns were predicted to be applied and the virus' cases kept increasing. they are worried of my well-being living alone. that day, i checked-out of my rent-room. all in my mind was god i didnt expect uni life would end that soon. i thought i would still be having my everyday commute for another months. friends, we thought we would still be hanging out at campus, doing our thesis together, laugh at things that isnt even funny when we're stressed out about our problem, right? but then again, the universe has its own way.

we didnt realized we were actually having that good old days, weren't we?
this too shall pass, friend. and at this moment, lets remember; we are infinite.
